These are the following: any speech in Salat, whether intentional or un-intentional , big or small, nullifies the prayer; wishing anyone in whatever terms (e.g. saying AS-SALAMU ‘ALAIKUM or other words used for the purpose); returning another Person’s wish, or blessing or responding to one who sneezed (with words like WA ‘LAIKUM-AS-SALAM WARAHMATUL-LAH) ; or saying amen in response to the invocation of some one not joining the Salat; reacting to a bad news by the word like IN-NA LIL-LAHI WA IN-NA ILAIHI RAJI’UN to a good news by pronouncing ALHAMDU LIL-LAH, or on learning an extraordinary news; SUBHANALLAH; reacting to one’s pain o disease in words or by exclamation like ah, oh, etc ; interpolating in Salat when an error is committed by a person leading another congregation ; reading the Qur-an from the written or printed text ; committing some grave mistake in recitation ; doing too much of some extraneous act (besides the rituals of Salat such as would lead someone to suspect that the person concerned is not offering Salat) ; eating or drinking, intentional or otherwise ; walking more than two meters ; turning the chest away from Qiblah without any compulsion ; performing Sijdah on an unclean spot ; remaining with uncovered Satr for as long as one would complete one part of Salat. asking from ALLAH things in prayer that would properly be asked from human beings, e.g., "May Thou O ALLAH; give me one hundred rupees this day"! crying in adversity or pain so that words sorrow or grief become audible to others; for a major to give a loud laugh or even to laugh audibly; forging ahead of the Imam.

Answer 357. The things commanded in Salat are known as constituents (arakan) of Salat. Arakan is the plural form of rukn. Rukn means a command or obligation.

Question 388. How many ordained acts (wajibs) are there in the Salat?

Answer 388. There are fourteen Wajibs in Salat: Doing recitation in the first two rak’ahs: Reciting Al-Fatiha in each and every rak’ah of all Salats with the exception of the third and the fourth rak’ahs of fard Salat; Reciting either one whole chapter (surah) or a long verse (ayah) or three short verses in the first two rak’ahs of a fard Salat and in each and every rak’ah of all other Salats whether wajib, masnun or Nafl after the Al-fatiha; Reciting Al-fatiha before reciting any other Surah; Maintaining the order set for recitation, ruku’, sijdah and the rak'ahs; Doing qaumah (standing erect after ruku’); Performing jalsah (sitting up in between the two sijdahs); Doing justice with (performing with ease and grace), the constituents of Salat such as ruku’, sijdah etc; Sitting as long as is required for Tashah-hud after two rak’ahs in a Salat comprising three or four rak’ahs; Reciting Tashah-hud in the two Qa’dahs; For Imam to recite the Qur-an aloud in Salat of Fajr, Maghrib, isha, Jum’a, the two ‘ids and all the rak’ahs of Taravih and of Witr in the holy month of Ramadan and reciting on a low pitch in the Salats for dhuhr, ‘Asr etc; Terminating Salats pronouncing assalamu alaikum warahmatullah; Saying Takbir for the Qunut and reciting the Qunut in Witr; Saying additional takbirs in Salat for the two ids.
